about

Today, Sili Village (located on Olosega Island's western flank) has only one proud family living in it. After being nearly destroyed by cyclone-stirred seas in the '80s and early '90s, most homes in the village were abandoned to be quickly claimed by the jungle.

Far up the coral-strewn beach and set back against the mountain is what remains of Naisina's blue house. Only the ghosts of the old village were there the morning I captured this recording. It is silence articulated, a hot breeze over a million leaves and through the empty windows. I stood there awed by the the stillness magnified by what was but was no more.
