January 25th. Another Monday.

The cat sleeps nearby, warm and twitching in his secret dreams.

We curl together in front of the space heater and candles watching curtains of snow falling in the night waiting beyond the window.

French music from the 1960s drifts around the apartment. We borrow its alien nostalgia, lingering for a time in old Ektachrome light.

We talk of "our island" somewhere far away across the compromises, the winter, and an endless ocean.

Let’s pretend we'll live in this moment forever, and in the doing so, perhaps we will.
