about

Musicians Vangelis, Klaus Schulze, Andy Fletcher, and Alan White died during the time I was working on these pieces. I've noticed that when a notable, "Wikipedia worthy" person dies, editor-vultures swoop onto the relevant Wikipedia page to make that terminal, irrevocable, god-like edit: changing "is" to "was." On their hands - a dead star; paint a vulgar picture, indeed.

That's life now, apparently. The universe crowd-sources a tiny edit and all that remains is a lingering melancholy galvanized by the cycle of virtual life and how it chillingly intersects with the intractable.

Reality and the increasingly porous frontier with its virtual neighbor fades and I find myself wondering if one were to edit an "is" to a "was" on a living person's Wikipedia entry, would they suddenly cease to exist?

Would an edit from "was" to "is" have the reverse effect?

Here are five recent ruminations on these and other matters of flux.

released July 1, 2022

Synthesizers + Programming | Mellotrons | Electric Piano | Piano | Tape Loops | Sample Curation + Triggers | Photography + Design :: Terry Skaggs

Realized at Fort Awesome, Ofu Island, American Samoa, April & May 2022.

Some tracks contain loops built from lo-fi cassette tapes. I've left in some of the hiss inherent in these recordings because cleaning the sound strips it of much of its living dynamics.

Recording of Track 3 was started at my former home studio, The Map Room, Rock Island, Illinois, in October 2021 with recording completed at Fort Awesome in May 2022

I grew up in the Midwest of America. I've lived in the remote Manu'a Islands in the South Pacific and Southern California.

My youth was experienced through the sonic lens of '70s European electronic music, the ambient sounds of Eno, and the darker side of '80s new wave, post punk, and new romantic.

Today, I create the soundtrack for my life; an accompaniment for the existence that I've known.
