about

A sequel to the first volume of field recordings that I've captured over the past decade on Ofu in the Manu'a Islands of American Samoa.

"Art Of The Sunrise" - December 2004, Vaoto Lodge. I awoke just before dawn and made this recording in my room, windows open, morning pouring in all around. Originally intended as a companion to "Ofu Island Night" which appears on my first volume of field recordings from this place.

This recording was lost for many years on a misfiled compact disc tossed into a drawer and forgotten until I stumbled across it in the summer of 2015.

"Leaves Of Green" - In January 2005, while exploring the hillside behind Ofu Village, I found a taro plantation and sheltered from threatening skies beneath a small shelter and recorded the peaceful scene.

This recording was lost for many years on a misfiled compact disc tossed in a drawer and forgotten until I stumbled across it in the summer of 2015.

"Onward" - It was a Saturday in April, 2014, when three island dogs and I climbed the slopes of Ofu's Tumutumu mountain. This 'traveling record' was made as we hiked the rough trail to the summit.

"Tales From Ethnographic Oceans" - Friday, August 21, 2015. My fiancée and I spent the morning together on Ofu's National Park beach. Before we went on a beachcombing walk, I turned on my equipment to capture the wind, waves, and solitude of this sacred place.

Curated, engineered, edited, and mastered in November 2015

UPDATE APRIL 26, 2021: While most of my catalog is "name your own price" I've been forced to put a price on the three "Palagi In The Rain" field recording releases. Bandcamp allows artists 200 free downloads per month and these three releases regularly tap out that reserve. While I'm happy that they're popular, if you enjoy them, support independent artists and sling me a few bucks in return.

about

dead lizard grin Rock Island, Illinois

I grew up in the Midwest of America. I've lived in the remote Manu'a Islands in the South Pacific and Southern California.

My youth was experienced through the sonic lens of '70s European electronic music, the ambient sounds of Eno, and the darker side of '80s new wave, post punk, and new romantic.

Today, I create the soundtrack for my life; an accompaniment for the existence that I've known.
