Veils Of Rain

about

The rain was a surprise, but I knew I'd captured a magical, yet typically tropical moment when it came clattering down. For me, nothing says "Samoa" quite like rain on a corrugated metal roof.

It was a brief shower carried in on the breeze -- the clouds didn't bother to show up, electing instead to lurk behind the mountain before later dejectedly drifting off to sea. Outside my falé were sparkles and rainbows in the long light of late afternoon.

I kept recording for several minutes while I wandered outside and let the cool, sunlit shower wash me down. This is how it was that lost day in May of 2006.

When I returned home I added some complimentary electronics to the audio soup. With layers of effects and a delicate mix, the synthesizers now rise gently in the breeze and fall like waves on a far, otherworldly reef -- an electro-organic sliver of sound from the Samoa of my dreams.

Today, I create the soundtrack for my life; an accompaniment for the existence that I've known.
