about

Recorded in 2007 and originally released in January of 2008, this was my first foray into free form solo experimentation. The plan was that I would head out in the early evening and find a location to film the sunset. Within the next twenty-four hours, I'd go to the studio to completely compose and record the soundtrack for the sunset video.

Random sound generating systems were employed, as well as processed field recordings and other found acoustic sounds. Once a suitable tonal library was accumulated I would then 'compose' the pieces via largely via element selection, editing, effects application, and mixing.

Most of the pieces also contain sections of performed instrumentation, the only significant deviation from the random/composed process would be “a winterlit monday” which is a more traditionally written piece built around a piano loop I stumbled across while improvising.

My aim was to evoke a dreamlike, texturally hypnotic sense of place and emotional resonance within each piece.

The original seven pieces have been augmented by the addition of a new track recorded in June 2012 wherein I revisit the random/composed creative dogma.

about

dead lizard grin Rock Island, Illinois

I grew up in the Midwest of America. I've lived in the remote Manu'a Islands in the South Pacific and Southern California.

My youth was experienced through the sonic lens of '70s European electronic music, the ambient sounds of Eno, and the darker side of '80s new wave, post punk, and new romantic.

Today, I create the soundtrack for my life; an accompaniment for the existence that I've known.
